Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Compassion and Love
The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.
A Sisterly Duo
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
